Pickle

A savoury accompaniment made from vegetables or fruit or a mixture of the two that are cooked in preserving agents such as vinegar, sugar, salt or oil.

To store: Keep in a cool, dry place and consume by the best before date. Once opened store in the fridge and use within the recommended time.

A wide variety of pickles are sold in Waitrose including:

Brinjal aubergine pickle

A medium hot traditional Indian pickle made with aubergines and flavoured with mustard, chilli, coriander and garlic.

Uses: Brinjal aubergine pickle is traditionally served with naan bread, puppodums or as an accompaniment to Indian main meals. It can also be served with cold meats and cheeses.

Lime pickle

A traditional intense and tangy Indian pickle made with limes and hot spices.

Uses: Lime pickle is traditionally served with naan bread or as an accompaniment to Indian meals. It can also be served with salads or cold meats and cheeses.

Onion pickle

This preserve has a distinctive flavour of pickled onions.

Uses: Serve with a ploughman's lunch or as an accompaniment to cold meats and cheeses.

Sweet pickle

A mixed vegetable pickle (onions, cauliflowers, swede, carrots and gherkins) which has a sweet tangy flavour and a crunchy texture.

Uses: Serve with cheeses, cold meats, salads or pork pies. Sweet pickle is the traditional accompaniment to a ploughman's lunch.
