Prickly pear

Prickly pear

To make these cactus fruits more friendly, the prickles are removed before they are sold. Prickly pears are ripe when they give slightly in the palm of the hand. The flesh inside is golden yellow or red, dependent on the country of origin, with a cool, refreshing taste like that of watermelon.

To store: Keep in the fridge for 4-5 days once ripe.

To prepare: Cut the pear in half and peel off the skin or scoop out the flesh with a spoon, discarding the seeds. Sprinkle with lemon or lime juice.
