Five a day

Eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day is an essential part of a healthy diet.

Select a season

Our seasonal guide is full of ideas for healthy breakfasts, snacks, lunches and dinners - making it easy for you to get your five a day from the current fruit and vegetables. Each suggestion counts as one complete portion. An adult portion is 80g.

Eat a rainbow

Fruit and vegetables from five different colour groups – red orange yellow green purple – make up each day's menu. As different coloured fruit and vegetables contain different nutrients, combining them is the best way to get all you need.

Your ideas

We recently ran a competition, asking for your suggestions for ways of increasing your five a day. Our winners were: Julie Eccleshall from North Lincolnshire; Christine Constable from Surrey; Fiona McGovern from Perthshire and Rebecca Rickard from Berkshire. You can read all customer suggestions here or discuss it further in our forums.
