Your waist to hip ratio can indicate potential health risks with research showing that people who carry more weight around the waist could face more health risks than those who carry more weight around the hips. Ratios above 0.80 for women and 0.95 for men are associated with obesity and are linked to greater risk for health complications and diseases.

To determine if you have a healthy waist to hip ratio, use a measuring tape to measure the circumference of your hips at the widest part of your bottom. Then measure your waist at the smaller circumference of your natural waist, usually just above the belly button. It doesn't matter if you measure in centimetres or inches, just ensure you use the same unit for both measurements.
