Flushable duck ponds
Consistently acknowledged for its commitment to animal welfare, Waitrose was the first supermarket to stop selling intensively reared duck. It is also the only supermarket to only sell fresh free range duck meat.
Waitrose ducks are the only ducks reared for meat in the UK to enjoy full access to clean water for swimming and bathing.
Ducks need water to drink and for natural preening and grooming so after numerous experiments with different watering facilities such as troughs and showers, Waitrose is now trialling bespoke ‘flushable’ duck ponds. These ponds allow dirty water to drain away before being refilled with clean water, thus providing the animals with a constant source of fresh water.
