Where does Waitrose turkey come from?
Our Select Farm turkey comes from a breed specially chosen for its tender, flavoursome meat. The birds are reared in light, windowed houses with natural ventilation and straw bales, and given darkness for rest. Temperature and humidity are constantly monitored, to keep the birds comfortable. Select Farm turkey
Produced from a white-feathered breed specifically chosen for its high-quality meat. Reared in windowed houses with natural daylight, straw bales and, at night plenty of darkness for a proper rest.
Free range turkeys
These birds are reared in small flocks on selected farms in Lincolnshire and Wicklow, Ireland. Fed a cereal-based diet, they have access to open pastures from their naturally-lit and ventilated houses.
Bronze-feathered free range British turkeys
Bronze-feathered turkeys are a slow-growing breed that produces full-flavoured, firm-textured meat. They’re fed a natural, cereal-based diet, and have access to open pastures.
Organic bronze-feathered free range British turkeys
These turkeys are reared on one organic farm in East Anglia, where they’re fed an organic cereal-based diet and have access to organic pastures. The farm is regularly inspected by the Soil Association.
How do you protect animal welfare?
All our turkey farms are registered with the Turkey Federation Quality Assurance scheme, which independently audits farms to ensure high standards of animal welfare and food safety. The birds are transported in specially-designed trailers, and on arrival are inspected. They stay in small groups before processing.
Buying Waitrose turkey
We sell whole turkeys and a range of cuts, including turkey mince, breast steaks and diced turkey thighs. As an alternative to a whole bird, we offer Select Farm turkey breast crowns, which are quicker to cook and easier to carve. All our turkey is available prepacked from the chiller cabinet, and we offer an ordering service at Christmas and Easter.

Specialist free range turkey farmer Jonathan Martin rears the turkeys on his farm at the foot of the Lincolnshire Wolds in an area of rich, unspoilt countryside. The birds are reared in small flocks with access to open pastures from their naturally lit and ventilated houses. They are fed on a cereal-based diet.
