Waitrose introduces its new range of gourmet food from top chef Heston Blumenthal

Introducing an exclusive range of gourmet food that combines Heston Blumenthal's magic with Waitrose quality, making it easy to bring Heston's flair into your home.

Waitrose teams up with Heston

When Britain's most innovative chef, Heston Blumenthal, teamed up with Waitrose, they already shared a passion for high quality food. Now he has combined his stunning creativity and touches of culinary genius with the supermarket's quality and taste standards for something truly unique.

'I wanted to do things that somewhere along the line had a little twist. It could be the flavour or even the way it is made,' says the Michelin-starred chef.

"We might try to push the boundaries a little bit further and see how experimental people are"

Together Heston and Waitrose have created some iconic "must have" seasonal products such as the Hidden Orange Christmas Pudding and Puff Pastry Mince Pies with Pine Sugar Dusting, plus the stunning and mischievous Chocolate & Passion Fruit Popping Candy Tart.

There is also a fabulous range of delicious year-round lines available to give you the taste of Heston's exquisite palate every week – from Lapsang Souchong Tea Smoked Salmon to ice cream, sausages, bacon and burgers through to allowing you to cook like Heston by using his special stocks.

This exciting range allows shoppers to sample, create and experience exquisite gourmet food in their own homes. And plans are afoot to expand it to more than 60 products by next April for diners who want high quality food with a special something – Heston’s seal of approval. 'Somewhere along the line we might try to push the boundaries a little bit further and see how experimental people are,' Heston says.

The partnership between Waitrose and the chef, whose restaurant The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, is noted for pushing culinary boundaries, plays to both their strengths. 'At every stage, Waitrose has been pretty uncompromising. I have not had one occasion where I have come across any corner-cutting,' Heston explains. 'Even the packaging looks great and everything about this relationship has just been a joy.'

The range includes Coriander & Rose Salt that combines a floral hint of rose petals and warm coriander spice. It works well with roast meat but adventurous diners will find it also goes down a treat with chips. Not every product has a flavour twist – sometimes it is Heston’s quest for

perfection that has led to the development of a product for everyone to share and enjoy.

Heston is a master of perfection, and products such as the Ultimate Burgers reflect his desire to produce foods that deliver the best taste by the way they are made while his new bacon flavours have been selected to show how you can add another flavour dimension and some excitement to a staple everyday product - from tomato ketchup through to the more surprising addition of vanillla to the smoky saltiness.

A selection of Heston from Waitrose pies includes a filling of beef, ale and kombu (a Japanese seaweed that enhances meaty flavour), as well as traditional favourite fillings such as steak and kidney.

Desserts include the Salted Caramel Ice Cream, which gives a sublime contrast of flavours when served with Heston's Ready-to-Bake Biscuits.

His two stock sauces also each contain an unusual ingredient to add something special. 'They are definitely the best stocks commercially made that I have tasted. I would say that, I know,' he says. 'But that is the kind of level both we and Waitrose set for ourselves. Of its kind, it has to be the best you can get on the market.'
