Heston Blumenthal’s range for Waitrose has been given a fantastical makeover. At its heart is a series of delightful illustrations of impeccably dressed anthropomorphic characters inspired by British fashion and classic children’s stories. The adorable family of characters relate to product ingredients with each one carrying its own backstory.
‘The thing that makes us human is imagination,’ Blumenthal tells Weekend. ‘We love telling stories, and if you think about imagination, there is a huge connection with animated characters from our past. The illustrations on the packaging tell you way more about the product because they fuel your imagination.' The illustrations were created with oil paint on canvas by artist Bob Venables.

New this Christmas
Heston always has a few Christmas surprises up his sleeve and this year is no exception.
Look out for his Persian Spiced Christmas Pudding, containing apricots, pomegranate liqueur, pistachios, caramelised orange and fragrant Middle Eastern spices, and The Ultimate Chocolate Truffle Cake, which is made up of layers of sponge, ganache and buttercream.
Another newcomer, Heston’s Spiced Shortcrust Mince Pies With A Lemon Twist, is inspired by lemony Sussex pond pudding.
