Alastair Cook finds out how workers in farming communities in South Africa are deciding how best to invest in their future under the Waitrose Foundation

England cricket captain Alastair Cook swapped his pads for grapes last week when he visited a pioneering farming project in the Western Cape province of South Africa. Cook, England’s all-time leading run scorer, took some time out of the current Test series to visit three grape farms in the Hex River Valley. Together with his wife Alice and one-year-old daughter Elsie, he saw how the Waitrose Foundation helps to support local farmers on a trip organised by the retailer, which sponsors England Cricket.
