    Chocolate and Strawberry Slice

    What an utterly wicked cheat – I mean treat! Find the Gusto cake mix in the chiller cabinets. Serve two slices each, and save the rest for seconds or for teatime.

    • Preparation time: 5 minutes
    • Cooking time: 15 minutes
    • Total time: 20 minutes 20 minutes

    • 600g strawberries, rinsed and hulled
    • 1-2 tsp sugar, to taste
    • Juice of 1 lime
    • 500g pack Gusto Chocolate Sponge Cake Mix


    1. Preheat the oven to 180°C, gas mark 4. Grease and line a 17cm x 27cm rectangular cake tin with baking parchment.
    2. Purée half the strawberries in a blender together with the sugar and half the lime juice. Set aside. Halve the remaining strawberries, coat in the remaining lime juice and set aside.
    3. Pour three-quarters of the cake mix into the prepared tin, swirl in 3 tablespoons of strawberry purée, then pour the remaining cake mix on top.
    4. Place in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean. Serve warm or cold, dusted with cocoa powder and decorated with the remaining strawberry purée and strawberry halves.
