Contemporary Canine Cuisine – Granola with dried fruits, seeds & apple puree

As featured on Weekend Kitchen with Waitrose on Channel 4.

    Ingredients

    200g rolled oats
    1 tbsp sunflower seeds
    1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
    1 tbsp sesame seeds
    2 tbsp sunflower oil
    2 tbsp honey
    50g apple puree
150g dried apricots, apples & prunes
    2 tbsp coconut flakes

    Method

    1. Preheat the oven to 150C (fan assisted). Coarsely chop the dried apricots and prunes and finely chop the dried apple. Combine all the dry ingredients in a single bowl and mix thoroughly.

    2. In a separate bowl combine the sunflower oil, honey and apple puree and blend to ensure an even consistency. Slowly pour this mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring to ensure a light even coating of all the fruit, oats & seeds.

    3. Spread this mixture evenly across a pre-heated non-stick baking tray and place in the centre of the oven. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the granola mixture is lightly browned all over, but every 10 minutes give it a good stir to ensure even browning.

    4. Remove from the oven & allow to cool, before serving in suitable portion sizes according to your dog’s size & breed. Store the remainder in an airtight container, where it will keep for up to 10 days.
