    Marinated Pork, Char-Sui Style

    • Preparation time: 10 minutes plus marinating
    • Cooking time: 35 minutes

    Serves: 4


    • ½ tsp sugar
    • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
    • 1½ tsp sunflower oil
    • 180 g spring greens
    • 400 g pork fillet
    • ¾ tsp freshly ground black pepper
    • 3 garlic cloves, crushed
    • ½ tsp Chinese five spice powder
    • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
    • 1 tsp sesame oil
    • 2 tbs Hoisin sauce
    • 3 tbsp clear honey


    1. Mix together the honey, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, five spice, garlic and 1/2 tsp pepper. Rub two thirds over the pork. Cover and refrigerate for at least two hours, or overnight.
    2. Heat the oven to 200C/gas 6 and roast the pork for 25 minutes, basting it from time to time with the remaining unused marinade. Rest on a warmed plate for 10 minutes, loosely covered in foil.
    3. Meanwhile, blanch the greens in water with 1 tsp sunflower oil. Mix together the oyster sauce, 1 tbsp water, the remaining oil, sugar and the remaining pepper. Drizzle this over the drained greens.
    4. Slice the pork and serve it with the greens and some steamed rice.
