Old English Apple Pie

This recipe dates from 1927 and was given to me by my uncle Julius

  • Total time: 30 minutes

Serves: 6

Ingredients

  • 2 bramley apples
    2 tablespoons brown sugar
    3 cloves
    The zest of 1 lemon
A quantity of rose petals from the garden
    1 Packet of shortcrust Pastry
    1 tablespoon water
    A sprinkle of nutmeg

Method

  1. Wash peel and core the apples.Cut the apples into fairly large slices. Line a medium sized pie dish with the rolled out pastry. Place the apples segments into the pie dish then sprinke on the lemon zest and sugar then place in the cloves and a light sprinke of nutmeg. Cover the fruit with the rose petals, about 20 should do. Sprikle over with the water. Cover the dish with the pastry lid, and seal the edges with a litle water and cut asmall slit in the middle to allow steam to escape. Brush the top with milk.
  2. Cook in the oven on 200 centigrade for about 45 minutes or until golden brown
