    Saffron and Cinnamon Figs

    Sweet, plump Turkish figs are available throughout September and October and make a refreshing dessert.

    • Preparation time: 5 minutes
    • Cooking time: 10 minutes
    • Total time: 15 minutes 15 minutes

    Serves: 4


    • 50g granulated sugar
    • 1 large pinch of saffron
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 2 tsp Greek honey
    • 4-8 Waitrose fresh figs, cut in half lengthways
    • 150g tub Total 0% Fat Free Greek Yoghurt, to serve


    1. Place 300ml cold water, the sugar, saffron, cinnamon stick and honey in a large pan, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Bring to the boil gently and simmer for 5 minutes.
    2. Add the figs and simmer for a further 5 minutes or until tender. Remove from the heat and discard the cinnamon stick.
    3. Serve the figs warm with the yogurt and drizzled with the saffron syrup.

    Stir the yogurt into the cooled syrup for an extra creamy sauce, or serve chilled
    with ice cream.
