    Spicy Date and Fig Compote

    • Vegetarian


    • 6 dates
    • 6 semi-dried figs
    • ¼ tsp Chinese five-spice powder
    • 1 lime
    • 1 pinch salt
    • 1 pinch sugar


    1. Put 6 roughly chopped, stoned dates and 6 roughly chopped, semi-dried figs in a small pan with ¼ tsp Chinese five-spice powder. Peel a lime and slice out the segments, working over a bowl to catch the juice. Add the segments to the dried fruit. Warm over a medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add the lime juice, a pinch of salt and sugar to taste.
    2. Serve at room temperature with cheese or grilled fish.
