The vineyard near the sea

Just inland from the city of Brighton, Bolney Wine Estate covers 22 acres of rural Sussex countryside. Winemaker Samantha Linter has been at the healm since 1990, but her history with the estate goes back much further, as she's the daughter of the owners and founders, Janet and Rodney Pratt.

Surrounded by History

In the heart of the beautiful Sussex countryside lies Bolney Wine Estate. At the heart of the historic village of Bolney, the vineyards sit on a prominent hill which formed part of an estate mentioned in the Domesday book. Village tradition has it that the Prince Regent was a frequent visitor to Bolney in the 19th century when travelling to Brighton, staying at Bolney Lodge on the site of the current wine estate.

The Start of an Era

Bolney Wine Estate is the vision of Rodney and Janet Pratt, who planted their first 3 acres of vines on the property back in 1972. In the decades since, the winery has gone from strength to strength, claiming numerous awards and clockling up a few different winemakers too. The winery's current golden era began in 1990 when Rodney and Janet's daughter Sam took over the winemaking. Since her arrival the frequency of awards has increased, as has the estate itself - to its current 22 acres.

State of the Art Traditional Methods

In 2005 a brand new, state of the art winery was completed at the estate, with the assistance of a grant from DEFRA, in recognition of the estate's commitment to the production of premium quality English wines. The winery is just the latest stage in the estate's ongoing persuit for innovation and quality, enabling Sam and her team to produce the finest white, red and traditional method sparkling wines.

A pure, delicate Pinot Noir with soft berry-fruit flavours, that has been hand harvested and then matured in French oak barrels. A cool climate Pinot with fine crisp acidity to balance the smoky fruit and soft tannins. This would work well with charcuterie or why not drinking this with roast turkey.
