Cornwall's finest fizz

Camel Valley have been producing award-winning, world-class wines in a beautiful corner of Cornwall for twenty years. Set on sun-drenched slopes near the famous Camel River, a respect for traditional practices combined with a modern, passionate approach to wine making has proven to be a winning formula.

Getting away from it all

When ex-RAF pilot Bob Lindo and his wife Annie planted their first eight thousand vines in 1989, they never dreamed of the phenomenal success they would achieve within two decades. They had bought their farm in the heart of the Cornish countryside several years earlier, seeking a change from service life and the perfect place to bring up their young family, and initially farmed sheep and cattle. Each summer they watched the grass turn brown on the sun-drenched slopes of the Camel Valley, and wondered if vines might enjoy such an aspect.

Keeping it in the family

In recent years, Bob Lindo has taken a step (albeit a small one) back from life in the winery, passing the mantle onto his sone, Sam. Sam Lindo graduted with a degree in math’s and seemed destined for a lucrative career in finance, before having a change of heart. Missing the glorious countryside and relaxed lifestyle of the county that had been his home for so long, he turned his back on the city and instead returned to the family farm in Cornwall. He has now taken over as Winemaker, with a little help from Dad now and again.

Highly awarded wines

In 2007 was named ‘UK Winemaker of the Year', as well as his wines winning 'Wine of the Year' and the Sparkling Wine Trophy in the UK Vineyards English wine competition judged solely by Masters of Wine. Sam retained the coveted ‘Vintners Trophy' for the best UK English sparkling wine and another 3 Trophies in 2008.

Currently, Camel Valley holds the Waitrose Trophy, The English Wine Producer’s Trophy, The International Wine Challenge Trophy and ‘Best International Sparkling Wine’ Trophy in the World Sparkling Wine Championships held in Verona. A Decanter World Wine Awards Gold is just one of 4 won by Camel Valley in 2009.

Camel Valley Brut 2007 Cornwall, England, £18.99

Beautiful and quintessentially English sparkling wine, with a smooth and fruity palate and a long round finish. Slow maturing of the grapes provides delicate flavours and a refreshing acidity. In the words of winemaker Sam Lindo, "Sparkling wine is what England and Cornwall does best. It's no coincidence that France's best sparkling wines are produced in their northerly vineyards." The cooler climate allows the wine a freshness not possible in warmer regions. The perfect accompaniment for another English classic - fish and chips.
