Réserve des Hospitaliers Cairanne, Côtes du Rhône-Villages, France
CÔTE DU RHÔNE VILLAGES. Cairanne village, north east of Orange sits in the heart of the Rhône, home of the 'Knight Hospitaliers de St. Jean' in the 12th century, who were sworn to assist in the defence of Jerusalem and specifically, to protect a hospital built in Jerusalem before the first crusade. Today, the village, with its ancient stone buildings, has an atmosphere of those medieval times. This Cairanne is made from quality Grenache and Syrah grapes that were picked at optimum ripeness. Aged in French oak barriques for nine months, the wine has developed a wonderful structure and richness. A deep cherry red hue and a moreish nose of vanillas, morello cherries, chocolate and a touch of clove spice truly tempts. Red cherry fruit and a twist of cinnamon and nutmeg finish this full flavoured Rhône red off beautifully. 13.5% vol.
