Preparation & Storage
- Feeding guide From 6 months + All babies are different but you should try to ensure that from 6 months to 1 year your baby has 500 - 600ml of SMA Follow-on Milk per day, either as a drink, on cereals or mixed with food. Preparing your baby's feed Failure to follow instructions on preparation and storage may make your baby ill. 1 Wash hands well. After 6 months of age, if you are using a beaker it is not necessary to sterilise equipment, though you should ensure everything has been fully cleaned. If you are using a bottle sterilise all utensils according to manufacturers instructions. 2 Shake SMA bottle, unscrew lid from bottle and remove the foil seal. Pour desired amount into your own beaker or sterilised bottle and add lid to beaker or sterilised teat and cap to bottle. Replace lid onto the SMA bottle and refrigerate. Use remaining contents within 48 hours of opening. 3 SMA Follow-on Milk can be fed at room temperature. If required to heat, stand your baby's beaker or bottle in warm water. 4 Before feeding shake well. If warmed, test temperature by shaking a few drops of milk onto the inside of your wrist, milk should be lukewarm. Important feeding information Shake bottle well before use. Once open, reseal SMA bottle and store in the fridge for up to 48 hours. Throw away decanted feeds that have not been used within 2 hours. Ready to use SMA Follow-on Milk can be poured over cereals and mixed with food. Never add any food to the milk in your baby's bottle. Do not warm feeds in a microwave oven as this may cause uneven heating and could scald your baby's mouth. Remember, cows' milk should not be used as a drink during the first year. Do not refill or reuse. Important notice SMA Follow-on Milk is suitable for babies over 6 months and is not intended to replace breastfeeding. It should only be used as part of a varied weaning diet. The decision to begin weaning, including any decision to start weaning before 6 months, should be made only on the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist, based on your baby's specific growth and development needs. Prolonged or frequent contact of drinks or feeds with the teeth increases the risk of tooth decay. Make sure your baby's teeth are cleaned after the last feed at right. Ask your healthcare professional or dentist for advice. Never leave your baby alone during feeding.
