Deliciously crispy, light rice flakes with spelt bran, succulent raisins, apricots and apples. What is Spelt? Spelt is an ancient grain, a distant cousin of wheat, that was first grown in Somerset at the beginning of the Iron Age. It has a deliciously nutty taste and a unique gluten structure that the body finds really easy to digest... which is why some people with a wheat intolerance find spelt a suitable alternative. Please note that spelt contains gluten, and is not suitable for diagnosed coeliacs or those with gluten allergies. St Hildegard von Bingen, a renowned 12th century German Abbess, once said,""Spelt is the best of grains... rich and nourishing and milder than others. It produces a strong body and healthy blood and makes the spirit of man light and cheerful.""Today, it is recognised that Spelt is naturally high in iron, great for keeping the immune system and your blood in good condition, and is a good source of potassium which helps maintain normal blood pressure and muscle function. Why eat our Spelt Flakes? No added salt. Not many breakfast cereals can make that claim! Low in saturated fats. A diet low in saturated fats contributes to the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels. High in fibre. No wheat grains. We haven't used any wheat grains in the manufacture of these flakes, so if you've got problems with wheat, these flakes could be suitable for you. British. The spelt bran in this box has been taken from the white flour we produce in our spelt mill on the farm. The flakes were produced and packed for us in England and the board that's used in this packaging is from sustainably grown forests. The boxes were printed for us by a family-owned business in the west country. The History of Sharpham Park. For well over 1000 years, Sharpham Park has had a rich agricultural heritage, sustaining Abbots, Kings and Noblemen. Now the family home of Roger Saul, founder of the British designer brand Mulberry, the farm is set like a jewel in the heart of the rich, lush pastures of the Somerset Levels. The spelt fields have 6 metre margins and the hedgerows are only cut every other year, allowing wildlife such as hare, lapwing, dormice, bees and ladybirds to shelter and forage for food all year round. And we are proud to say that no pesticides, herbicides or harmful chemicals are used in growing our spelt, allowing nature to take its own course. Our Product Range.
