Robert Mondavi believed that wine was an integral part of life and good wine should be paired with good food. Bright citrus-apple notes turn to rich white fig, apricot and peach flavours on the palate while oak adds some sweet spice. Robert Mondavi (1913 - 2008) emigrated from Italy and went on to become a true pioneer of the Californian wine industry, championing the labelling of wine by grape variety, the introduction of cool fermentation and the use of stainless steel tanks. Two-thirds of the grapes came from Lodi with the balance mainly from the cooler Central Coast. Lodi is nestled between the Delta region and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Gentle pressing of the fruit was followed by cool fermentation to emphasize the fresh fruit characters. A small part of the blend underwentmalolactic fermentation for richness and then barrel-aging, using fire-toasted staves for sweet spice notes.

- This wine pairs nicely with grilled shrimp salad, roast chicken with rosemary, a creamy risotto or clam chowder. Serve chilled.
