1 cinnamon stick, broken into several pieces
2 fresh bay leaves, plus 5 extra to serve
1 orange, halved, plus 2½ slices to serve
100ml sloe gin (or honey, to taste)
1. Put the cinnamon, cloves, bay leaves and cider into a medium pan. Lightly squeeze the 2 orange halves into the mixture and drop the squeezed halves in afterwards. Add the honey, if using. Simmer on a very low heat for 20-30 minutes.
2. Stir in the sloe gin, if using, then strain into a jug or bowl. Serve in heatproof tumblers, small mugs or beer glasses, garnished with the bay leaves and ½ a slice of orange.
