A family business
Back in 1976, fifth-generation farmer Peter Barfoot discovered that the microclimate near Chichester, on the border of West Sussex and Hampshire, resulted in consistently yellow sweetcorn with plump, sweet, firm kernels. Today, Barfoot’s grows vegetables on farms around the world, but they remain dedicated to their first love: the humble sweetcorn.
Caring for the earth
Since 2010, Barfoot’s has been creating energy from their green waste – and they now produce more than they can use, selling the rest of the National Grid. They farm every acre of their UK land using a minimum tillage system, which enhances the soil and helps the environment.

Sweetcorn with chilli, herbs & lime
Try griddling until tender and charred, then drizzling with olive oil and lime juice and scattering with chopped chilli and herbs for a tantalising bite
