  • To Hand Make. 1. Place the bread mix in a mixing bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.. 2. Gradually add the water using a round bladed knife to combine until a dough is formed.. 3. Tip the dough onto a floured worktop (or place in a food mixer fitted with a dough hook) and knead for about 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.. 4. Place the dough back in the mixing bowl, cover with lightly oiled cling film and leave to rest in a warm place for 1 hour.. 5. Remove the dough from the bowl and knead the dough again for a further 5 minutes.. 6. Grease a 2lb (900g) loaf tin and place the dough in the tin. Cover with oiled cling film and leave to rest in a warm place for 30 minutes. Preheat the oven to 230oC, gas mark 8.. 7. Uncover and bake in the oven for about 25-30 minutes until well risen and lightly browned. Cool in the tin for 5 minutes before placing on a wire cooling rack.. For fan ovens please refer to the manufacturer's guidelines for cooking time and oven temperature.. If using a breadmaker, follow the manufacturer's instructions for a basic white loaf but use 330ml water.. Cooks Tip:. Add 1 tbsp clear honey to the dough after adding the water.
