In 1040, the Benedictine monastery of Weihenstephan (Sacred Stephen), overlooking the town of Freising, was granted the right to brew. Today it creates this rich caramel-coloured, complex and creamy beer with dark cloves, banana fruitiness and hints of apple and cinnamon.
