Sustainability for life
Our food touches the lives of millions of people, from our customers to those who make, grow and pack our products. As Partners (co-owners of our business) we are passionate about every step of its production, from field to fork. We believe that by always being fair, never wasteful and transforming the lives of those who create, eat and enjoy it - our food can be a force for good.
Farming & fishing
We build long-term relationships with farmers and producers who share our commitment to sustainable and ethical practices and the welfare of workers.
We work directly with our farmers and growers to ensure the highest standards in quality and environmentally-friendly practices are met.
We are committed to promoting the highest standards of animal welfare and our work has been recognised by Compassion in World Farming.
By investing back into the communities that grow, pick and pack our produce, Waitrose Foundation products support farming communities with every sale.
Packaging & waste
From plastic to packaging, we're committed to finding new ways to reduce waste wherever we find it.
By 2025 our own-label packaging will be widely recyclable, re-usable or home compostable. Many improvements can already be seen in our stores.
Our food is too good to waste so any edible food that we can't sell is donated to local charities and good causes.
Customers can recycle a range of items in our stores, including carrier bags, batteries and waste electrical.
Community & health
We are dedicated to promoting the well-being of our customers, Partners, and the communities in which we work and trade.
Under the green token scheme, £30 million has been donated to charities and good causes chosen by our customers in store and online.
Our Good Health label helps customers select food that is both healthy and delicious.
We work continuously with suppliers of our own-label products to improve nutritional content, including sugar reduction.
