Pate

Pâté

A French term that originally meant a pastry case filled with a savoury mixture of any combination of meat, fish and vegetables. Nowadays pâté simply refers to a savoury mixture, usually quite smooth in texture and often sold and served in slices.

Waitrose stock a wide range of pâtés, prepacked pâtés include Waitrose pork liver and apricot pâté, Waitrose duck pâté with apple and tarragon, Waitrose spiced aubergine pâté and Waitrose smoked salmon pâté. Service counter pâtés include Ardennes pâté, Brussels pâté, Scottish Ayrshire bacon and turkey pâté and French pâté with prune and cranberry.

Uses: Pâté can be served on toast, on crusty bread or in sandwiches either for a snack, light lunch or starter. It is also a main ingredient in the classic dishes Boeuf en croute and Beef Wellington.

To store: Keep in the fridge and consume by the use by date.
