Ale

Ale

Ale is a term that refers to beer that is made in a specific way using top-fermented yeast - this is yeast that boils and rises to the top of the fermenting vat. A variety of different types of ale are available in Waitrose, lighter pale golden ales include Caledonian Organic Golden Promise Ale, Broughton Organic Border Gold Ale, Badger Golden Champion and St Peter's Golden Ale. Brown ales which are mild and dark in colour include Newcastle Brown Ale.

Uses: Ale can be used in a variety of savoury casseroles or stews, pale ales work well in pork or sausage dishes while brown ale can add a delicious flavour to beef casseroles.
