Accessibility Statement

The Waitrose Digital Accessibility Community is dedicated to championing awareness, understanding and an appreciation of accessibility — so everyone has the opportunity to shop with us easily and equally.

We are committed to creating a website and apps that are inclusive and available for all user groups including the disabled, the visually impaired and those with motor deficiencies and cognitive disabilities.

We are actively working to ensure all our pages comply with the key requirements of the W3C (World-Wide Web Consortium) best practice accessibility guidelines and that every page conforms to the AA level of the WCAG 2.2 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines).

What we are doing to improve

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is one of the UK’s leading sight loss charities. We have worked with them to understand our customers’ access needs and to provide accessibility audits of our website. But we also understand accessibility must be brought into our everyday working lives.

We now have an Accessibility Community that regularly runs training sessions to increase confidence and knowledge so an appreciation of accessibility becomes second nature across the Digital team and underpins all we create.

Accessibility checklist

Our checklist is adapted from the success criteria in the WCAG guidelines to ensure our site is AA compliant or better. It covers different areas of keyboard navigation, focus management, screen readers, magnification and page structure. This is used for all components in our design system ad in any in-house accessibility reviews we carry out on our website.
