    Christmas mulled wine

    Mulling over whether to create your own mulled wine? Well, with our perfect mulled wine recipe below it couldn't be easier. And by following the simple instructions you'll fill the kitchen with the warming, spiced aromas of Christmas and put yourself and your guests in a homely festive mood. it's a joy to make and to taste.

    • Preparation time: 35 minutes
    • Total time: 35 minutes 35 minutes

    Serves: 6

    Ingredients

    • 1 bottle robust red wine
    • 2 cloves
    • 2 blades mace
    • 2 allspice berries
    • 1 stick cinnamon, broken
    • 6 cardamom pods
    • Finely pared zest of 1 lemon
    • Finely pared zest of 1 orange
    • 100g caster sugar, or to taste

    Method

    1. Put everything but the sugar into a non-corrodible pan over a low heat
    2. Warm to just below boiling. Remove from the heat and leave to infuse for 10-15 minutes. Return to a low heat
    3. When hot, but not boiling, sweeten to taste. (Alternatively, place all the ingredients in your slow cooker and cook on low until warm - 1-2 hours, depending on your slow cooker)
    4. Strain and serve in heatproof glasses
