    Hot Perry

    This hot, buttery drink will help to keep out the autumn chill. It's a twist on the classic American-style drink, flavoured with cinnamon and cloves.

    • Total time: 40 minutes 40 minutes

    Serves: 6


    • 1 orange
    • 4 x 500ml bottles Waitrose Vintage English Perry
    • 50g sugar
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 2 cloves
    • 25g unsalted butter


    1. Using a potato peeler, remove the orange zest in large strips. Place in a large pan with the perry, sugar, cinnamon stick and cloves. Simmer gently for 30 minutes but don't let it boil.
    2. Remove the cloves and cinnamon. Stir in the butter and when it is completely melted, pour into a flask or heatproof jug and serve warm.

    For a non-alcoholic version, use 2 litres of Waitrose Pressed Apple, Pear and Blackcurrant Juice instead of the perry.
