Crisp

1. A popular snack of deep-fried potato slices that are eaten cold. A wide range of crisps are sold in Waitrose in a choice of flavours, shapes and sizes. Serve as a savoury snack or with a selection of savoury dips. Crushed crisps can also make a tasty topping for pasta bakes or vegetarian bakes.

2. To cook a food until it has a dry and brittle outer layer, eg bake fish fillet coated in breadcrumbs until crisp, roast potatoes until they are crisp and golden.
