Flameproof

A material that is resistant to direct heat, eg a hob, and indirect heat, eg the oven. Flameproof materials such as cast iron are used to make casserole dishes.

Flameproof casserole dish

A dish primarily for making casseroles which can be used on the hob and also in the oven. The most popular flameproof casseroles are made from cast iron.
