Tortillas

Tortillas

These are very thin rounds of dough made with wheat flour and originally from South America.

Uses: Tortillas can be rolled up and filled with a variety of savoury fillings, including a combination of meat or vegetarian chilli, cooked chicken, salsa, guacamole, grated cheese and shredded lettuce. Enchildas are filled tortillas that are deep fried. Tortillas are often served with a main dish instead of rice and they are used to scoop up the meat or vegetables in the same way as a chapatti in Indian cuisine.

To store: Tortillas should be stored in a cool, dry place for up to 2 months.

To use: Wrap the required number of tortillas in foil and warm in a preheated oven (180°C, gas mark 4) for 5-10 minutes.
