How to make eggnog

How to make eggnog

Even though eggnog is associated with North America as a quirky
Christmas tradition, it is rumoured to actually come from Europe, and possibly even England.

The sheer mention is often enough to cause others to wince, presumably because alcohol and milk sounds like a recipe for disaster. But it’s a tradition for a reason, and done right, it can make a delicious and fun twist to your Christmas party.

Here’s a step by step guide on how to make a classic eggnog that even the Grinch will enjoy.

Steps:

1. Put 25ml brandy, 20ml dark rum, a dash of sugar syrup and 1 medium egg into a shaker and fill with ice.

2. Shake and strain into a saucepan.

3. Add 75ml of milk and simmer on a low heat. Don’t allow it to boil. Wait a few minutes and you are ready to serve.

4. Sprinkle with nutmeg just before serving.
