Grenadine

Grenadine or grenadine syrup is probably the most well-known fruit syrup. Made from the juice of pomegranates, it is a thick ruby red colour with a strong, very sweet flavour. Grenadine has a low alcohol content - the variety sold in Waitrose has 0% alcohol.

Uses: The distinctive strong red colouring and sweet flavour of Grenadine make it an essential ingredient in a wide variety of cocktails. It is often used in mixtures of clear spirits and is most famously included in a Tequila Sunrise to create the red-orange sunrise colours.
