We believe our farmers are the key to our success. Without them, Waitrose & Partners couldn’t deliver the high quality responsibly sourced food that our customers demand. We have built trusted supply chains with our farmers and work closely with them to ensure we are providing the highest standards of food production, animal welfare and sustainble farming practices for customers as well as a fair return on investment back to their farm.
A great example is our dairy supply chain. We work closely with our dairy farmers to ensure production efficiencies and high animal welfare standards are maintained.
We negotiate directly with an established group of farmers under a pioneering producer group system to agree a fair farm gate milk price which takes their cost of production into account. Read more about the Waitrose & Partners pledge for fairness in supporting our dairy suppliers here
Forging a better future
We're always working closely with our farmers, growers and other suppliers to encourage sustainable farming practices. We believe we can help shape a more secure food future that works for everyone.
Our inspections and farm assurance schemes reward best practice and guarantee the standards we, and our customers expect.
Meanwhile, our work with experts in soil management, crop production, animal welfare and fishing helps support suppliers to be more sustainable.

British countryside funding
We source British produce whenever we can. We also fund work to support the countryside to flourish through the Prince's Countryside Fund. Set up by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales in 2010, the charity helps improve the prospects of family farm businesses and the quality of rural life. Waitrose & Partners is proud to have contributed to this fund, which has provided grants of nearly £10 million to 230 projects nationwide, helping more than 100,000 people.
We’re farmers ourselves
We understand how challenging, yet rewarding it can be to produce tasty, sustainable food. We have farmed around 4,000 acres continuously at Leckford Estate in Hampshire for over 90 years and are committed to producing the very best quality food, in harmony with the environment. Leckford is a Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) demonstration farm, supplying milk, apples, pears, apple juice, cider, free range eggs and mushrooms as well as Leckford free range chickens to Waitrose branches.
Improving the lives of our overseas suppliers
The Waitrose & Partners Foundation was set up in in 2005 to help enrich the lives of those who work for us all over the world. The Foundation – a partnership between Waitrose & Partners, our suppliers and the people who grow, pick and pack our produce – has contributed more than £10 million to locally-led projects.
This includes supporting schools, healthcare facilities and local communities to foster community development and environmental sustainability. Projects are chosen by locally elected farm-worker committees, who know best what their communities need.
Every time you buy produce from the Waitrose & Partners Foundation range a proportion of what you spend is invested back into the communities that grow, pick and pack it.
Look for the green logo when buying and you will know you are contributing towards this charitable fund.
