    Chilli cheese sourdough toasted sandwich

The artisan bakers who make our No.1 Sourdough in this recipe spend time kneading, shaping and slowly proving each loaf in traditional baskets to create the distinctive shape

    • Preparation time: 10 minutes
    • Cooking time: 10 minutes
    • Total time: 20 minutes

    Makes: 4

    Ingredients

8 slices Waitrose & Partners No.1 White Sourdough Bread
    Butter, softened, for spreading
    180g mature Cheddar, grated
    200g Gruyère, grated
1 red chilli, deseeded and thinly sliced

    Method

    1. Heat a large, heavy-based griddle or frying pan over a medium-low heat. Butter the bread on both sides.

    2. Mix the cheeses together and divide between 4 of the slices of sourdough. Scatter over the sliced chilli then firmly press the remaining bread on top to make 4 sandwiches.

    3. Cook the sandwiches in the hot pan (you may need to do this in 2 batches) for 4-5 minutes on each side until the sourdough is crunchy and golden and the cheese has melted. Cut in half and serve immediately.
