A selection of British cheeses made with British milk.
All cheeses are suitable for vegetarians. These cheeses have been handpicked for the Autumn/Winter season. They offer provenance, taste and versatility. Perfect for cheeseboards, the Camembert can be baked, the Harrogate Blue can be crumbled into soup and the hard cheeses can be melted on toast as the dark evenings draw in. Highland Camembert Charismatic Scotsman, Rory Stone makes Highland Camembert at Blarliath Farm in Tain, in the Highlands of Scotland. A true family company, he joined in 1994 eventually taking the reins from his Mother and older brother who moved into cheese making purely by accident after running a micro dairy. Similar in style to his Morangie Brie with a springy, white edible rind and smooth, soft, oozy paste when ripe, Highland Camembert is meaty and mildly earthy with a hint of sweetness from the pasteurised milk of the local dairy cows. Delicious on a cheese board or on baked bruschetta Harrogate Blue Shepherds Purse began in the late 1980's after Mum, Judy Bell, set out on a mission to create quality dairy alternatives for cow's milk allergy sufferers. Shepherds Purse remain a proud, independent family business making cheese in the traditional way on the farm in North Yorkshire. Harrogate Blue is golden bodied with blue streaks. Matured for a minimum of 10 weeks, the optimum time for the cheese to develop exactly the right depth of flavour and creaminess. Winning its first award just two weeks after launch in 2012, it has a special place in the history of Shepherds Purse as it was the first cheese co-produced by Katie and Caroline (Judy's daughters) after taking over the running of the company. Barbers 1833 Vintage Reserve Cheddar The Barber family started producing cheese on their Somerset Farm in 1833. Six generations on and they're still working to a traditional recipe and using a unique 'traditional' set of starter cultures to create this vintage cheddar. The Cheddar is aged for a minimum of 24 months giving it complexity and depth: you will also note naturally occurring crystals which give a wonderful crunch. Made using cows' milk from 100 local farms. Try as part of a traditional 'Ploughmans' with a glass of Somerset Cider or melt onto hot toast. The Talisman Croome Cheese are a family run business based on the outskirts of Worcester who are passionate about creating award winning and innovative cheeses. They source local ingredients, wherever possible, with the aim of introducing a wide range of exciting and iconic flavours to cheese. They are especially proud of having recently launched their 'eco-friendly' wedges made with peel, reseal and re-cyclable packaging. The Talisman is made using a creamy Mature Cheddar cheese which is scattered through with Black Truffle pieces for a really indulgent taste.
