IMPROVING LIVELIHOODS
ACROSS THE GLOBE SINCE 2005
The Waitrose Foundation shows how fresh produce can make the world a better place. When you buy a Foundation product, 2% of the sales goes back to the farms that grew it – funding community-led projects, improving livelihoods and growing brighter futures.
How we make a difference
Over the past 20 years, we’ve invested more than £24 million across 10 countries, supporting thousands of projects chosen by farm workers themselves, from cancer screening programmes to music and sports groups.
Growing more together
In 2024 alone, 296 of those projects directly supported 76,422 farm workers, their families and their wider communities.
Communities leading the way
Worker committees decide how the funding is used, supporting everything from health clinics and libraries to food parcels, hygiene kits and hardship funds when they're needed most.
The Foundation in action
From healthcare in Kenya to farming in Ghana, see how the Foundation is giving back across our supply chain – supporting the farmers who grow, pick and pack our food.
Meet the supplier: Kenya Horticultural Exporters
Kenya Horticultural Exporters (KHE) grow Tenderstem broccoli and runner beans for Waitrose, nurtured in East Africa’s ideal climate. With support from the Waitrose Foundation, they’ve delivered projects including a maternity unit, dormitory school facility and laptop scheme. “Part of my job satisfaction comes from the support we receive from Waitrose Foundation,” says farm manager Gift Marimo. “It has improved our livelihoods and even our children’s education.”
Our Foundation fruit, veg and flowers
Up to 212 fruit, vegetable, wine and fresh flower products are supplied by Waitrose Foundation growers.
Buying Waitrose Foundation flowers provides microloans to workers, enabling investment in income-generating activities and school fees for children.
