  • 100ml bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 50ml lemon juice
  • 25ml sugar syrup
  • dash Angostura Bitters
  • 1 egg white
  • Ice
  • 60ml red wine


  1. Shake together the bourbon or rye whiskey, lemon juice, sugar syrup, Angostura bitters and egg white. Strain into two ice-filled rocks glasses and carefully pour 30ml red wine over each.

Cook’s tip

Sugar syrup

To make sugar syrup, heat equal parts caster sugar and water over a low heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar has dissolved. Cool before using, and store in a lidded container for up to 1 week.
