These are great for enjoying in the garden or packing into a picnic

These gorgeous little madeleines bake in just ten minutes so they’re perfect to pop in the oven just before guests arrive so the smell permeates the house. The batter is best when it’s chilled for at least four hours or even overnight so you can get it ready ahead of time. You can buy a non-stick madeleine tray online to make sure you get that distinctive fluted shape. 

Blackberries are in season right now in August but you could use the frozen ones or even try other berries. I love this simple glaze – it’s almost fuschia in colour so makes for a really pretty treat to enjoy in the garden with a cup of tea or a glass of fizzy elderflower cordial.
